Community knows what community needs best: through a healing-centered, harm reduction, and culturally competent lens, we have two advisory committees aiding in the creation of community connection support groups in Central Winnipeg.
People Who Love People Who Use Substances
The “PWLPWUS Advisory Committee” is a network of individuals who support and love someone who uses substances and experiences mental health issues. This committee was created due to the lack of community connection for friends and family wanting to support their loved ones and themselves through a harm reduction and non-faith based framework. The advisory committee is responsible for the creation, implementation, and ongoing support of the “People Who Love People Who Use Substances Support Group” and its facilitators.
The new peer-led “PWLPWUS Support Group” will begin meetings October 23, 2020! Due to COVID-19, meetings will be held online and moved to in-person when safe to do so. Frequency of meetings, video platform, and in-person restrictions are subject to change. Group leader biographies coming soon! To learn more or register, contact Chance at Chance@spenceneighbourhood.org or Call/Txt (204) 451-2455.
2SLGBTQ+ Substance Use Peer Advisory Group
The 2SLGBTQ+ Substance Use Peer Advisory are a group of individuals from multiple walks of life and intersecting identities that have lived or current experiences with using substances. The Peer Advisory works to support the 2SLGBTQ+ community from a harm reduction, transformative justice, inclusive, intersectional, and culturally competent lens. The 2SLGBTQ+PA is responsible for the creation, implementation, and ongoing support of the 2SLGBTQ+ Substance Use Drop In (coming the summer of 2020) and ongoing advocacy for harm reduction practices across Winnipeg, MB.
