Advisory Groups

 Community knows what community needs best: through a healing-centered, harm reduction, and culturally competent lens, we have two advisory committees aiding in the creation of community connection support groups in Central Winnipeg.

People Who Love People Who Use Substances 
This is an advisory committee of individuals who support and love someone who uses substances and experience mental health issues.  This committee was created due to the lack of community connection for friends and family wanting to support their loved ones through a harm reduction framework.  The advisory committee is responsible for the creation, implementation, and ongoing support of the “ Caregiver Cafe” and its facilitators which will come into effect spring of 2020. 

The Advisory Committee is seeking facilitators to guide a drop-in support group for friends, family, and loved ones of those who use substances and experience mental health issues.  The committee is seeking a reliable, friendly, and compassionate individuals with lived experience as a caregiver or support person.  No professional experience required! Honorarium, bus tokens, and opportunities for personal development provided.  First drop-in will be held in early June. Responsibilities include:- Facilitating conversation with drop-in members- Conflict resolution skills- Setting up/cleaning up of space before and after – Understanding of inclusive spaces, intersectionality, harm reduction practices, and work from a healing-centred and culturally competent practice.

2SLGBTQ+ Substance Use Peer Advisory Group
The 2SLGBTQ+ Substance Use Peer Advisory are a group of individuals from multiple walks of life and intersecting identities that have lived or current experiences with using substances.  The Peer Advisory works to support the 2SLGBTQ+ community from a harm reduction, transformative justice, inclusive, intersectional, and culturally competent lens. The 2SLGBTQ+PA is responsible for the creation, implementation, and ongoing support of the 2SLGBTQ+ Substance Use Drop In (coming the summer of 2020) and ongoing advocacy for harm reduction practices across Winnipeg, MB.
